INTRO
My name is Greg Hill and as you can see from this site, I'm a professional Sound Designer running a successful studio. I have a good reputation in the multimedia industry and I certainly would not provide a service that was in any way dubious.
I'm unimpressed by the current masking devices and noise generators for the tinnitus sufferer. Some are very expensive and are basically just MP3 players (with rubbish headsets), and those static white noise generators are not a great idea either. I do not recommend listening to static white noise for long periods of time, the higher frequencies could perpetuate the condition. Some of those devices could not possibly be made in collaboration with professional sound designers that have any empathy towards tinnitus sufferers!
***Pink Noise is the preferred range of frequencies for tinnitus and hyperacusis sufferers***
I doubt you need yet another long explanation what tinnitus is, so let's get straight to the important details...
QA
What are these sounds then? Relaxing environmental sound recordings embedded with modulated and processed Pink Noise.
When do I listen to them?
Note: If you are going to listen to these sounds a lot, I recommend purchasing the longer and more varied sounds on offer.
How loud should I play them? Quietly, below speaking volume, you don't want to make things worse. You should be able to hear someone when they require your attention and continue to carry on with a conversation. The method is not to drown out the tinnitus with high volume levels, but to shift perceptions to retrain the subconscious parts of the brain to ignore the tinnitus and this is achievable at low volumes.
What do I listen to these sounds with? Any audio playback device. I recommend an MP3 player with quality in-ear (ear-canal) ear plugs, these sound great and you can sleep comfortably with these in. Or good quality headphones. Or a full range speaker system.
What else is planned? I have some new and exciting sounds coming soon, plus a range of sounds designed to rehabilitate binaural perceptions. This is retraining the brain to discern between the changes that have occurred to the left and right auditory systems using comparative sonic data in simple stages. Even people who are partially or totally deaf in one ear can benefit from this as even a single sided auditory system can perceive and discern the complexities of 'occlusion' in a real world space.
